I remember being in school and surrounded by a flock of kids discussing how amazing this book was. It seemed everyone was reading it and had so much to say about it. This peaked my curiosity and I picked it up. This was the second book I have read by Katherin Patterson (following The Great Gilly Hopkins). She has such a talent for creating such heartfelt stories and realistic characters. It's so easy to relate and visulize this book. I felt connected to the characters. It's the first book I was ever exposed to that tackled senstive issues. A modern classic and must read.
