Princess of the Midnight Ball - Jessica Day George I am wary of retellings and reimaginings of fairy tales. They are not often done right and usually the authot is purposefully trying to be "edgy" or "cool" or else is just retelling something in a way that's already been done to death (like in the case of Fables).
However, Ms. George does a brillant job at taking a lesser known fairy tale, fleshing it out, and creating a true reimagning without losing the genre or the feel of the original tale. If only all retellings could be this good. She fleshes out the stories and adds alot of flavor without detracting for the original. The characters are interesting, especially the main protagonist. It was an interesting choice for her to have the main character be a boy for a book marketed for young girls. Very well done.
